Christmas 2004

Christmas...already! It seemed like 2004 flew by. And, it was such a big year. Maury starting Kindergarten, getting Lizzie potty trained, Steve continuing his education, and me struggling through the implications of new accounting rules.

Lizzie's Style

I knew it was going to be a great Christmas when I had to crack out the hat and gloves I had bought for Lizzie for Christmas because we had such a cold snap. She was just beside herself with glee when she saw them. Here she is wearing them on a day when she didn't really need them, but she just had to have them on to show her girlfriends at school.

Pooped Out

Ever since Maury has been in Kindergarten, he is easily the first one to go to sleep each night...with no fight. It's wearing him out! Add a Christmas party to the usual routine and it makes for a little boy who falls asleep at about 6 p.m. and is out for the night!

Striptease

Lizzie got a feather boa with a gift from her Aunt Beth and Nana decided to show her how that was really supposed to be used. She put on some good ol' striptease music and showed Lizzie how to shake her little patookie to the tune. It's hard to catch that sort of action on film...this is as close as I got. Nice outfit on her, huh? That is the top to Maury's Incredibles' PJ's because his head wouldn't go through the neck of them. It did go through the neck of hers. Can you say "irregular"?

Rock N Roll

This is the "rock n roll" that Aunt Beth gave Lizzie. It came with the feather boa previously mentioned, the headset microphone, and the sunglasses, as well as the main thing: a pink guitar. She loved this gift!

THE Face

Maury has been imitating the Puss in Boots face from Shrek 2 ever since we saw the movie. Here is the face next to a poster of Puss that Maury got from Santa. Pretty good, huh?

One Big Disc

Another great gift from Santa: this big disc that Maury saw advertised on TV and really wanted. They got to play with it for a little while on Christmas morning before we headed to Grandma and Grandpa's to continue the holiday festivities.

Puzzling

Lizzie and Maury got several puzzles for Christmas and Lizzie really liked the IDEA of that. She is actually helping her daddy in this picture with her Where the Wild Things Are puzzle, but it was short lived. I can't tell you how many puzzles adults put together at Lizzie's urging that weekend.

The Best Gift

You know the old saying that you give a kid a present and he plays more with the box than what was in it. That is exactly what happened this Christmas. Maury in particular loved the boxes that gifts from our extended family came in.

Tooth Fairy Follows Santa

Maury lost his first tooth on a night we will never forget...Christmas! I didn't even know he had a loose one and about 15 minutes after I discovered that, he had it out. The tooth fairy found him at Grandma and Grandpa's and left him four quarters.

Learning to Skate

Maury and Lizzie got skates for Christmas and we gave them a try the day after. I was laughing so hard I was crying and the kids were having a blast...even though they weren't very good at even walking with the skates on. They will learn fast, though.

I'm SO Sleepy

I took the kids to visit family for the day on New Year's Eve. After she and Maury had played outside for a while, Lizzie came in and asked for a snack. (Yes, Lizzie would eat cereal and nothing else if you let her, so this does qualify as a snack to her.) She was in the middle of eating and just fell asleep.

Brown Playdoh

Nana and Papa went to a lot of trouble to be sure that Lizzie and Maury each had one Playdoh can of each color in their stockings. They even had their names written on each one to avoid the inevitable argument. Nonetheless, Maury immediately decided he needed green Playdoh and intentionally mixed the blue and yellow to make some. Lizzie was even more creative...but not intentionally...she turned four cans of Playdoh in white, red, blue and yellow into four cans of Playdoh in brown.
