The Walking Boy

I don't know why, but for the last few weeks of Maury's crawling era, he started carrying things around in his mouth. This rattle, which we took off one of the flower arrangements we got when Maury was born, was his particular favorite thing to carry around this way. (He never played with the thing when he was tiny, but he found it in the bottom of his toy basket and just loved it all of a sudden!) I figured when he started walking, the mouth thing would stop since he would have a hand free to get things from place to place. WRONG! What a ham.

I'm Walking, Yes Indeed

Maury has been pulling up to stand since about the time he started crawling (on my birthday, April 3). And, he started cruising shortly after that. On July 4th, he took his first wobbly steps on his own. For a while after that, he basically only took steps without holding on to something when he forgot what he was doing. On July 30th, though, he just took off. It was a very conscious effort on his part...you could just tell from the look he would get on his face whenever he took off. This is Maury in his first pair of walkers during the first week that shoes became a part of his daily routine. We wanted him to learn to walk barefooted, but we knew when he moved up to the walker room at daycare, he had to wear shoes everyday. Maury just made it...he was walking well with one week to spare!

Kisses For EVERYone

In late July, we went to visit my parents while my Uncle Tom, Aunt Marcy and Cousin Sarah were in town. Shortly before we headed home, Uncle Tom read some nursery rhymes to Maury. This was a tedious process, I'm afraid, since Maury doesn't turn pages in any kind of order and since he suddenly decided that he needed to kiss all the girls he saw in the book. My feelings were a little hurt since he hadn't started giving ME kisses yet, but that started pretty soon after this day.

Mommy and Daddy's Toy

Maury, the one who loves to bang on things, just couldn't resist getting a few swipes in at the computer keyboard one evening when we got home from work and daycare. He has quite a history of being able to rename files on the computer with one swift thud. He amazes his daddy everytime he does it.
